The Economic Singularity

I would like to see the topic of The Economic Singularity, and what could possibly be done to mitigate the catastrophic impact, discussed here.

I attempted this effort in the USTP Discord, but I was routinely derailed by rants from very emotional members. I would like to see if we could have a rational and fact-based discussion.

Sorry for a dumb question. What is Economic Singularity? I'm familiar with concept of singularity but it telling me only the capabilities of machine intelligence. Of course advances in ai already leeds to big impact on economics. Imagine how many coders, doctors and other professionals loosing jobs because of Bard and chatGpt

If cognitive automation (artificial intelligence and robotics) takes most of the jobs, then there will be a colossal wave of permanent technological unemployment. Like the Great Depression of the 1930's, but worse. That is The Economic Singularity (which is the title of the book by Calum Chace).

Very important: you do not need AGI for this to occur!
